It was constructed way back in 1910 on the Pravara River. Standing about 150 meter high, it still holds the record of being the largest earthen dam in India. Several gardens are also constructed along the sides of the dam. Pravara River feeds the Arthur Lake-famous for its blue colour.Bhandardara is also a paradise for trekkers and adventure lovers because Mt Kalsubai, the highest peak of Maharashtra is located here.

There is also a temple at the top of the mountain. Legend says that Sri Agasti Rishi mediated in Bhandardara for one year and fed himself only water and air.Later,Agasti Rishi dwelled here.
