Simla is a beautiful hill town in the lap of nature, surrounded by pine and deodar forests. It is situated in the north-west Himalayas and is the capital of the state of Himachal. It is a 18 sq km mountainous region lying at an altitude of 2,213 meters. It is coined by British as “Queen of the hills”.
Shimla hill Town bloom at its best during the months of December, January and February to indulge in the lively ice sports like skiing, ice-skating or simple throwing snowballs! Main attraction here is the ice skating carnival that is held every year during winters in the month of January. The carnival is fun and lively and the various colors against the white backdrop of the snow make Shimla look like a wonderland. The ice skating sessions usually take place twice in a day, in the morning and evening.
Though Shimla has pleasant climate throughout the year, it experiences cold winters. The temperatures can drop to sub-zero conditions during the winter season. The best time to visit Shimla would be October to November and from March to May. It is advisable not to visit Shimla during monsoons, since it has severe landslides every now and then in that season.

Mall Road Shimla
Located at the heart of the town, the Mall Road in Simla is one of the busiest commercial areas of this place. The Ridge and Scandal point are the two main meeting points at the Mall Road.
The Ridge is the Center of all cultural activities of Shimla. It is situated along the Mall Road, which is the famous shopping center of Shimla. Most major places of Shimla like Lakkar Bazaar, Mall, Scandal Point, Jakhoo hill, etc. are connected through the Ridge.
Jakhu Hill is 2 kms. from Shimla, at a height of 8000 ft, is the highest peak of Shimla , offers a beautiful view of the town and of the snow-covered Himalayas. At the top of the Hill, is an old temple of Hanuman, which is also the home of countless playful monkeys.
Situated at a distance of 2 kilometers from the heart of the city, Annandale is a lovely picnic spot .
Glenn A thickly wooded forest is a famous picnic spot that is located around 4 kilometers from the center of Shimla. The thick cover of the deodar trees makes this place a calm and tranquil locale. It is also known as the playground of Shimla where various games are organized during British period.
Situated at a height of 2155 meters, the Prospect hill is a great place to visit and unwind in the natural surroundings. It is also famous for a hilltop temple dedicated to Kamna Devi.
State Museum & Library
The Shimla State Museum and Library is a famous tourist attraction that is located at a distance of around 2.5 kilometers from the center of Shimla. The museum is full of ancient sculptures, paintings, coins and photographs.

The Viceregal Lodge is located at the top of Observatory Hills and was constructed by the British. This brilliant building served as the residence of the Viceroy, Lord Dufferin. It was completed by the year 1888 and it is still well maintained. This Lodge has now been transformed into the famous Institute of Advanced Studies and the six storey building still stands in its entire splendor. The lodge has famous gardens and perfectly manicured lawns. The place is a very famous tourist attraction and must be visited.

It is located at a distance of 43 kms. (via Kufri) and 62 km. (via Kandaghat) from Shimla. Chail, is located at a height of 2,250 metres, combines the charm and beauty of a remote and peaceful mountain resort with the splendor and elegance of a princely reserve. Chail was the summer capital of the Maharaja of Patiala before Independence. The verdant forests around Chail are alive with many species of birds and deer.
Kufri is a beautiful place at a height of 500 m above shimla surrounded by Breathtaking views, stunning locales and tranquil surroundings. Popularly known as Switzerland of the East, the spell binding beauty of Kufri hill station will definitely enchant you. 16 kms. Well known for its ski slopes. Commands good views.
Himalayan Nature Park has been set up at Kufri in 1992 which is spread in 90 hectare area and a mini zoo has been set up in this Park. Situated amidst dense forest where rare breed of wild animals and pheasants species commonly found in Himalayan forest region have been kept in natural habitat. Spread over an area of twenty hectares of land with rich flora and fauna about 140 wild animals including pheasants of different verities ‘Monal’ the State bird of Himachal Pradesh and one of the endangered species of Himalayan region has been the main attractions of the zoo.
The Naldehra is a beautiful hill resort at a distance of 23 kms from Shimla, Situated at an attitude of 2708 meters on the Hindustan Tibet road (NH – 22), Narkanda offers a spectacular view of snow ranges Under a skyline etched with conifers, Naldehra offers a well groomed nine-hole Golf course; undulating hills and giant deodars, make it a unique spot for picnics
The beautiful Narkanda hill station is situated at an altitude of around 2700 meters and offers a stunning view of the majestic ranges of Himalayas. It is at a distance of 60 kilometers from Shimla.
Renuka lake the largest natural lake of Shimla is located at an altitude of 672 meters.

The Bhimakali Temple is a very popular tourist attraction. The unique thing about this temple is that the style of architecture used to build it is a unique combinitation of both Hinduism and Buddhism. It is built of wood and is no less than an architectural masterpiece.
Jakhu Temple is located at the top of the Jakhu hill. The Jakhu temple is located at a height of 2455 meters and is situated on the highest peak in Shimla. It is 2 kilometers from the Ridge and is an uphill climb through the beautiful deodar trees. The Jakhu Temple dedicated to Lord, Hanuman.
Kalibari Temple Shimla
Kalibari Temple was built in the year 1845 and is dedicated to Goddess Kali who is also known as Shyamala. From the name of Goddess Shyamala that Shimla derives its name.
Christ Church & St. Michael’s Cathedral
The famous Christ church & St. Michael’s Cathedral of Shimla is a beautiful architectural masterpiece. The construction of this church took a span of 11 years (1846 – 1857). This splendid church is located just near the Ridge and can be reached very easily from Shimla bus Stand.

By Rail/ Train
The nearest railway station that connects Shimla to neighboring states is at Kalka. This place is located at a distance of 96 kilometers from Shimla. From Kalka, it takes around 6 hours to reach Shimla.
The journey from Delhi to Kalka is an overnight journey and reaches Kalka early morning. There are many tunnels en route with the longest being 1.2 kilometers long!
Shimla is well connected to neighboring places like New Delhi and Chandigarh through national highways. The journey from Delhi to Shimla by road takes approximately 8 hours. The highways are well maintained and are a pleasure to drive on.
